Add your first Synology NAS

Swads supports two connection methods: a QuickConnect ID or a direct NAS host address. If this is your first setup and you are unsure about your network configuration, start with QuickConnect.

Before you begin

You need:

• A Synology NAS with the Download Station package installed from DSM Package Center and running
• A DSM account with permission to use Download Station
• A QuickConnect ID or a NAS host address reachable from your device

Direct connections use HTTPS and DSM HTTPS port 5001 by default. Enter the actual port if you changed it in DSM.

Add the instance

1. Open Swads and go to the instance list.
2. Choose Add Instance.
3. Select QuickConnect or a direct address.
4. Follow the form to enter the connection details, DSM username, and password.
5. If two-factor authentication is enabled, enter the current one-time password (OTP).
6. Complete sign-in and save the instance.

Examples in this documentation use https://your-host.swads.app:5001, QuickConnect ID swads-demo, and username swads-user. These are placeholders, not shared credentials or a public Swads NAS; enter your own DSM connection details.

What “Stay signed in” saves

When Stay signed in is enabled, Swads stores the password in Apple Keychain and allows it to sync through iCloud Keychain. The DSM sign-in session and device identifier remain local to each device.

If you leave it disabled, Swads does not save the account password. You will need to authenticate again after the current session expires.

Confirm the connection

The server appears in the instance list and becomes the current instance. The setup is working when Overview reports Ready and the task queue loads.
