Connect with an IP address or domain

Connect directly with a hostname, local address, IPv4, IPv6, or domain.

When your device can reach the NAS directly, you can bypass QuickConnect and use a host address. Swads accepts:

  • IPv4 addresses, such as 192.168.1.20
  • IPv6 addresses
  • Hostnames, such as swads-nas
  • .local addresses, such as swads-nas.local
  • Domains, such as your-host.swads.app

Enter the connection details

  1. Choose Host while adding an instance.
  2. Select HTTPS or HTTP as the protocol.
  3. Enter only the address in the host field. Do not include https:// or a path.
  4. Enter the DSM port. The default HTTPS port is 5001.
  5. Choose Diagnostic Connection and confirm that Swads receives a response.
  6. Continue with your DSM username and password.

For example, if your NAS address were https://your-host.swads.app:5001, enter:

  • Protocol: HTTPS
  • Host: your-host.swads.app
  • Port: 5001
  • Username: swads-user

your-host.swads.app and swads-user are placeholders. Replace them with your own NAS host and DSM username; the example URL is not a public Swads NAS service.

Local and external networks

A private IP address normally works only on the same network or through a VPN. Before using a public domain, confirm that the router, firewall, port, and DSM certificate are configured correctly.
